We are officially living at the ranch.

Tonight we spent our first night as a family in our “new” ranch house. The old cabin has gotten a major makeover! Here is a sneak peak at what we’ve done so far….

We insulated the exterior of the cabin, added new windows and doors, new fascia and soffits and new siding. Everyone got their “sweat on” this summer working with the dark siding in the up to +40 degree sun! This is Bernie and Rob’s masterpiece… and it turn out exactly as I had envisioned (see last picture).

Andre and Kik from AMF Builders closed in the bottom of the cabin and installed the decks that were re-purposed from the old cabin.

We re-did the bathroom and added a full size tub. So thankful that I am now able to enjoy a nice bath and see what I’m doing in a space that is larger than 30inchX30inch. And who doesn’t love tartan??? Still searching for the perfect mirror and light fixture, but all in the space is what I had envisioned.

The old sunroom, which now faces east and captures the morning sun was converted into an office. Perfect space for working.

The kitchen also got a makeover. New cabinet fronts and knobs, a whole new workspace with pantry, new tile and full size fridge. Still a bit of finishing to do here but for now it works and is a wonderful space for hosting suppers with family and friends.

Oh, and let’s not forget the new dishwasher!! A must for a family that loves to eat and entertain the way ours does! As much as we are trying to keep things simple at the ranch, a dishwasher was a non-discussion. A little squeezing and improvisation was required, but as usual Rob and Bernie made it work!!

Raco has also been enjoying her time here. Sadly, we barely see her anymore!! She comes by every couple of days to say hi, snuggle with Cash, eat some cat food and then heads out again. Not bad for a 16 year old cat - I guess that goes to show the benefits of eating what nature has to offer, staying active and being outside.

So far living at Lagsdin has been everything we thought it would be : quiet, lots of wildlife sightings (stay tuned!), lots of reading, good food and we’re back to family board game time… even Raco joins in once in awhile.
