All is good with the Guineas!!

Our first foray into raising animals at the ranch is going well! Our Guinea Fowl are doing great! Unfortunately we lost 2 of the 9 shortly after then arrived, which is typical of these animals. After spending their early days hanging out in the shed, under a heat lamp, the Guinea Fowl are now outside in the fresh air and sunshine.

The Guineas roam freely during the day and return back to their house to roost in the evening. Their house is surrounded by an electric fence. They are munching primarily on ticks (yes ticks are still around and my family and I have learned a whole other level of tolerance for these bugs), greens of the land and other bugs. And they love the rain!

One lesson learned – 6 week old Guineas will fit through the electric fence holes. When released from the shed for the first time, they will run right through those holes and into the forest, never to be seen again. Thankfully, only 1 Guinea attempted this!

And for awhile, the rest of them had someone looking over them (and not eating them – phew!!).

And then there were 6……

Yummy………..
